PTSD UC D - Post Game Thoughts

Postby ALPHAGRIZ1 » Sun Oct 19, 2014 2:47 pm

Cons:
Defense had 397 yards put up on them and the DL was manhandled most of the day.
The DEs Wagenmann and Holmes that everyone likes to brag about and force feed you how dominating they are, had 5 tackles between them and were not a factor at all in the game.
Nguyen is still returning punts and KOs, he will MARK MY WORDS cost us a game this season with his stupid decisions and ball control issues. It would be better to not have a returner than have him on the field.
Hermanson played pretty poorly for the 1st time this year, blown coverages, missed tackles, got trucked, 3 times he took himself out of plays on the backside by making the wrong read.
JJ was bailed out on 3 bad throws. 2 Jones just went up and made plays on and the other was dropped/defended by a CB. He is a senior and needs to make better decisions/throws with the ball.
Our vaunted D let a Sophmore QB come in and look better than any QB that has played in our stadium in 2 years. (Ross) He was 20 of 37 for 257 yards and 4 TDs.
Griz were tied with UC Davis at half...........................seriously

Pros:
Peevy is stepping up and making plays, he did more than most of the DL today. (1 sack)
Gamboa keeps it steady with another double digit tackles game and 1 sack, he closes his side of the field off and its awesome to watch.
Reese played a nice game and looked to have taken a step this week, if he can add some size he is going to be solid.
Jones had a great game and saved JJs ass a couple times by going up for balls that were under thrown and thrown into double coverage.
Canada and Van both had good games, most of their yardage came on cut back runs after our OL was bullied, beaten and stuffed again.
Saylor had 5 catches and if the throws were better he might have had some YAC instead of diving to the ground to catch the balls.
Tucker Schye knows how to tackle, he is fundamental.....PERIOD he needs more playing time, have him return punts, play safety or kick extra points, he needs to be on the field.
JJ was running around and it showed the defense had to account for him so the pressure UCD was bringing backed off and opened things up in the second half. I am so shocked this happened, its almost like our coaching staff read a book or asked for help over the bye week.

We just played the worst team we have played all year and they were tied with us at halftime.

P.S. Wagenmann keep his streak of 349 straight autographs to people with hair shorter than he has.
Never look down on somebody, unless you're helping them up.

This needs to happen more every game. When the D has to account for JJ's threat to run it keeps those shorter routes open - if he can hit them.

Good to see Haynes out there also. He can stretch the D like Jones. This team is going to have a tough finish to the year. Poly, Eastern, Sac, MSU
